The school band is a mandatory CCA (Co-Curricular Activity) in all secondary schools. The CCA Branch of the Ministry of Education organises the Central Judging of Concert Bands (Primary Schools, Secondary Schools and Junior Colleges) and Central Judging of Display Bands (Secondary Schools) in alternate years. For the Central Judging of Concert Bands this year, MOE has introduced a new award, “Gold with Honours” to recognise bands with exceptional high standards of performance. The central judging which provides the opportunity for bands to benchmark their playing standards will be awarded medallions based on their performance and the award system is as follows:
Gold with Honours:
85% and above
Gold:
80% to 84%
Silver:
70% to 79 %
Bronze:
60% to 69%
Certificate of Participation:
59% and below
Having garnered more than 30 years of band-making, the school bands in Singapore have become more sophisticated with bands playing symphonic as well as transcribed orchestral works. The repertoire has since become more interesting and varied. Opportunities also abound for our bands as they participate in national events like performances at the Istana during the festive holidays, National Day Parade, Singapore Youth Festival Opening and Closing Ceremonies, MOE-SHELL School Band Fiesta in the Gardens, the Balloon Hats Festival at Sentosa and the Sentosa Fountain of Youth Series
interestin right!!so..is not only achieving gold..but gold with honours..its only like 1percent extra frm 4 lah...the gold and gold with honours only 5 percent diff...so its better to get gold with honours..sound so nice loh ..hehex
